About
David Ntephe is a Pasadena-based painter who has studied visual arts at Maryland Institute College of Art; beginning with a formalist approach, focusing on line, color, and pattern to define subjects—often the human figure or biological structures.
His current body of work focuses on creating a sense of space/place using a visual language referencing and echoing both natural and man-made environments and structures; the usage of linear and atmospheric perspective through abstraction—in which the viewer would have the sensation of being in or looking into a space existing within an indeterminate place between pure abstraction and representation, that did not explicitly depict or reference anything existing in the real world beyond vague, fleeting traces of elements drawing of the visual language of landscapes, cityscapes, and interior spaces.
